The Tribal Law and Policy Institute, in cooperation with the Office of Justice Programs, Office for Victims of Crime, United States Department of Justice, is sponsoring an essay contest for Native youth for the December 2008 "11th National Indian Nations: Justice for Victims of Crime" conference.

In an effort to promote and sustain the involvement of youth in the efforts to address victimization in tribal communities, we are seeking student essays which focus on the important role

that youth play in the efforts to respond to crime.

Three students will be selected to receive a scholarship covering travel expenses, lodging, and conference registration fee for themselves and a parent/legal guardian to attend the conference on the Agua Caliente Reservation (December 11-13, 2008). Winners will receive a special award for display at home or school. Winning essays may also be published in conference materials.

This contest is open to all American Indian/Alaska Native high school students who are presently enrolled in grades nine through twelve (as of December 2008).
